Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday inaugurated a series of new infrastructure projects in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, marking a significant milestone in the council's post-2020 redevelopment efforts.
Among the commissioned projects are a newly constructed multi-storey secretariat complex named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a purpose-built legislative chamber, and a standard interlocking road now bearing Governor Sanwo-Olu’s name. The new facilities replace the previous council headquarters destroyed during the #EndSARS protests.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the council chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Olowa, for his leadership and commitment to grassroots development. He said the projects aligned with the THEMES Plus agenda, emphasizing inclusive growth, improved governance, and urban regeneration.
“These developments demonstrate our collective resilience and commitment to delivering responsive governance,” Sanwo-Olu said. “The administrative and legislative buildings will enhance productivity, while the road infrastructure opens access to new development corridors.”
Sanwo-Olu also performed the groundbreaking for Citrus Gardens, a housing initiative developed in partnership with private investors. The estate is expected to offer modern residential units, paved roads, green spaces, 24-hour security, and recreational facilities.
The Governor revealed plans to further enhance connectivity in the area, announcing the construction of the Eleranigbe Road and a bridge from Sangotedo to the Lekki Airport corridor, designed to unlock economic potential in the region.
Council Chairman Olowa described the new secretariat as “one of the most advanced administrative buildings in Nigeria,” boasting high-speed internet, 24-hour solar power, CCTV, and a dedicated ICT centre. He added that the new legislative chamber would provide a befitting workspace for councillors and strengthen local democracy.
He further noted that Citrus Gardens will not only address housing needs but also serve as a catalyst for economic development in Ibeju-Lekki.
