As part of ongoing efforts to promote indigenous fashion and position Lagos as a cultural hub, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, held a high-level meeting with Queen Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, founder of Africa Fashion Week London and Nigeria, and the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Jonny Baxter.

The engagement centered on expanding the global reach of Adire, the traditional Yoruba textile, as both a cultural emblem and a viable export.

Commissioner Benson-Awoyinka reiterated Lagos State’s commitment to supporting creative industries that drive economic growth, preserve cultural identity, and empower local designers.

“As Nigeria’s fashion and creative capital, Lagos is proud to champion initiatives that elevate our heritage, spark innovation, and inspire the next generation,” she said.

She described the meeting as a strategic step toward globalizing African fashion, emphasizing Lagos’ role in shaping the continent’s creative future. The discussions also touched on the upcoming 15th edition of Africa Fashion Week London an important milestone for African fashion on the world stage.
