Team Brazil clinched a landmark victory at the E1 Lagos Grand Prix on Sunday, marking the team’s first win in the all-electric powerboat series and the maiden E1 race ever hosted in Africa.

The Brazilian crew, led by pilot Timmy Hansen, dominated from start to finish securing pole position in qualifying before powering through the group stages to claim victory in the final. They edged out Team Blue Rising, owned by Indian cricket star Virat Kohli, who finished second, while Team Drogba Global Africa, co-owned by Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba and Gabrielle Lemaire, placed third

With the win, Team Brazil earned 38 points, raising their season tally to 89. Despite the strong performance, they remain seventh overall as the E1 season heads to its final race in Miami next month. Championship leaders Team Brady, owned by NFL icon Tom Brady, maintained their top spot with 154 points, narrowly ahead of Team Rafa, co-owned by tennis legend Rafael Nadal, on 151 points.

The Lagos GP drew global attention as the first-ever E1 race on African waters, transforming the Lagos Marina into a hub of electric excitement and innovation. The event showcased cutting-edge marine technology, clean energy, and a vibrant mix of sport and sustainability.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the championship as a milestone moment for both the state and the continent

“Hosting the E1 series is not just about sports, it’s about innovation, environmental responsibility, and putting Lagos on the global map for future-focused development,” he said.

The E1 series, launched in 2023 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is the world’s first all-electric powerboat championship. Lagos’ successful hosting signals Africa’s growing presence in global sustainable sports events, setting the stage for more eco-conscious competitions across the continent.
