Strengthening Nigeria’s Global Voice: Courtesy Visit by NIIA Leadership to Lagos House

The Lagos State Governor had the privilege of hosting Professor Eghosa Osaghae, Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), along with Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, for a courtesy visit. The meeting provided an important platform for dialogue on advancing Nigeria’s interests both domestically and internationally.



During the visit, discussions focused on the pivotal role of NIIA in shaping Nigeria’s foreign policy and global presence. The Institute, known for its research, policy advice, and diplomatic insights, continues to serve as a cornerstone for Nigeria’s engagement with international partners. Both parties explored ways to enhance collaboration between the Institute and Lagos State in addressing global and local policy challenges.

The conversation emphasized leveraging research and expertise to inform strategic decisions that would boost Nigeria’s diplomatic influence. Participants also highlighted the importance of aligning state-level initiatives with national and international frameworks to strengthen Nigeria’s position on the global stage.

In addition, the meeting provided an opportunity to share insights on emerging international trends and the implications for Nigeria’s economic, political, and security interests. Strategies for improving partnerships with international stakeholders and institutions were also deliberated to ensure the country’s voice is effectively represented abroad.



The visit concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continuous engagement. Lagos State pledged to support NIIA’s mission and explore avenues for meaningful collaboration, reinforcing the shared goal of advancing Nigeria’s interests at home and internationally.
