Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed the state’s leadership role in Africa’s climate action as it prepares to host the 2025 International Climate Change Summit themed “Blue Economy, Green Money: Financing Africa’s Coastal Resilience and Ocean Innovation.”
Scheduled for November 6–7 at the Lagos Continental Hotel, the summit will bring together global climate leaders, investors, researchers, and policymakers to discuss financing opportunities for Africa’s coastal and ocean economies ahead of the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30).
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos remains committed to building a sustainable and resilient future through innovation, partnerships, and green investment.
He highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the development of blue bonds and nature-based coastal protection projects designed to strengthen the city’s resilience against climate risks and promote sustainable urban growth.
According to Wahab, the two-day conference will serve as a strategic platform for governments and development partners to align climate priorities, mobilize green finance, and accelerate adaptation investments in Africa’s blue economy.

Expected participants include representatives from the African Development Bank (AfDB), the World Bank, and Eko Atlantic, alongside private-sector players and climate innovators.
The Lagos International Climate Change Summit has become a leading platform for subnational engagement on climate resilience, reaffirming the state’s ambition to shape Africa’s green and blue economic future.
