Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced that the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line has transported more than five million passengers since its inauguration two years ago all without a single accident.

In a statement marking the second anniversary of the state-owned rail system, Sanwo-Olu praised the project as a milestone in Lagos’ push for efficient urban mobility. He disclosed that the Blue Line now operates trains every ten minutes, completing more than 90 trips daily and significantly reducing travel time for commuters.

“This project shows that with dedication and purpose, we can build systems that truly serve the people,” the governor said. “Journeys that once took much longer are now faster and easier.”

To celebrate the milestone, Sanwo-Olu announced a 50% reduction in fares for all Blue Line passengers on Thursday, September 4, 2025. He encouraged Lagos residents who have yet to use the rail service to take advantage of the discounted rate and experience the infrastructure firsthand.

The LRMT Blue Line, which currently links Marina to Mile 2, is a central component of Lagos State’s integrated transport plan and is expected to extend to Okokomaiko in future phases. Officials say the project is helping ease road congestion while providing a safer, more reliable alternative to road travel.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernising public transport. “Our journey is far from over. Step by step, we are creating the Lagos we all desire a city where moving around is easier, safer, and faster,” he added.

The anniversary highlights the state government’s progress in building sustainable transport systems under its “Greater Lagos” vision.
