Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday inaugurated a 233-unit modern housing scheme in the Abraham Adesanya area of Eti-Osa, further expanding the State’s growing housing stock. The project, developed through a Public–Private Partnership between the Lagos State Government and Urban Shelter Limited, comprises blocks of flats and terraces designed to meet the needs of low- and middle-income families. The commissioning marks another milestone in the Government’s ongoing efforts to address the State’s housing deficit..

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that his administration’s housing policy is anchored on strong public–private collaboration to deliver affordable homes. He noted that Lagos, as Nigeria’s urban hub and a fast-growing population center, requires more private sector-led initiatives to meet rising demand. According to him, the State has delivered over 11,000 housing units in the last six years, including the recent 420 units commissioned in Ajara, Badagry.
The Governor highlighted that the flexible approval system introduced under his administration has boosted investor confidence in Lagos’ housing market. He explained that the State provides land as equity in Joint Venture arrangements, while private partners handle financing and technical delivery. To ease costs for developers and homebuyers, Sanwo-Olu revealed that the Government grants a 40% rebate on permits and offers tax incentives to support regulatory flexibility.
He also issued a strong warning to Joint Venture partners who fail to meet project timelines and quality benchmarks, stating that such delays slow down the State’s development agenda. He emphasized that all ongoing housing projects contracted to private developers but left incomplete or below standard are currently under review for possible revocation. Completion of existing schemes, he said, remains a priority in increasing the State’s housing supply.

Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, commended Urban Shelter Limited for adhering to standards and demonstrating professionalism throughout the project. He noted that the partnership, initiated in 2019, aimed to maximize land use within the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to expanding access to decent and inclusive housing, strengthening reforms, and driving more partnerships that will unlock homeownership opportunities for Lagos residents.
