The Provost of the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), Professor Raheem Olasupo Akewushola, has applauded the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education for sustaining the Job Initiatives Lagos Programme, describing it as a visionary and impactful response to graduate unemployment, skill gaps, and youth empowerment in the state. He made the commendation while delivering his welcome address at the opening ceremony of this year’s edition of the programme, organised for students of tertiary institutions across Lagos State.

The event, which brought together students, facilitators, and key education stakeholders, was attended by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, alongside Directors and Officials of the Ministry. Professor Akewushola expressed deep appreciation to the Ministry for its continuous support and strategic leadership, noting that the programme has remained a meaningful bridge between academic learning and employability in Lagos.
According to the Provost, the Job Initiatives Lagos Programme aligns perfectly with the developmental vision of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, particularly in promoting education, youth development, and sustainable economic growth. He emphasized that the initiative continues to play a critical role in equipping young people with essential, digital, and professional skills that enhance their competitiveness in the labour market.
Professor Akewushola also highlighted the importance of innovation-driven and practical skill acquisition in today’s rapidly evolving global job landscape. He described the initiative as “timely and significant,” noting that it provides participants with the mindset, exposure, and tools needed to thrive in the modern workforce. He reaffirmed LASCOHET’s commitment to this vision, adding that the college remains dedicated to producing disciplined and competent health professionals who contribute meaningfully to both the public and private sectors.

Encouraging students to take full advantage of the opportunity, the Provost urged participants to actively engage with facilitators, learn from experts, and network effectively with their peers. “Every idea, every piece of advice, and every contact you make here could become a stepping stone to your future success,” he advised. The programme, he added, stands as another testament to Lagos State’s unwavering commitment to building a knowledge-driven, youth-inclusive economy.
