Permanent Secretary Tasks Marriage Registrars On Continous Self Development- Accountability.

Marriage Registrars across the Local Government Service of Lagos State have been urged to prioritize continuous self-development, maintain high professional standards, and ensure accountability in the delivery of marriage registration services. This call was made by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Local Government Establishments and Training (OLGE&T), Mrs. Bibilomo Olushekun, during the opening session of a two-day capacity-building workshop held at the Office of Local Government Establishment and Training address, Mrs. Olushekun emphasized that self-driven learning is essential in today’s dynamic public service environment, noting that professionals can no longer afford to remain stagnant. She highlighted the availability of virtual learning platforms that complement traditional in-class training and encouraged Marriage Registrars to invest in personal growth, acquire new knowledge, and consistently improve their competence.

The Permanent Secretary explained that the workshop was specifically designed to strengthen institutional capacity, deepen understanding of marriage administration regulations, and foster transparency across the 57 Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State. She reiterated that improved knowledge and professionalism are vital to enhancing the credibility and efficiency of marriage registration processes.

Mrs. Olushekun restated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting continuous capacity development initiatives in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda. She urged participants to uphold integrity and excellence in their duties, stressing that marriage administration carries significant societal importance and must be handled with utmost professionalism. The workshop also featured an insightful session facilitated by Dr. Emmanuel Temilade Oladele, President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute of Marriage Administrators and Counsellors of Nigeria.

Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the training expands their knowledge and strengthens their resolve to deliver better services to Lagos residents. The two-day workshop is part of ongoing efforts by the Office of Local Government Establishments and Training to enhance capacity, improve service delivery, and promote professionalism across the Local Government Service of Lagos State.
