In a bid to deepen professionalism and improve service delivery across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State, the Office of Local Government Establishments and Training (OLGE&T) recently organised a Capacity Building Workshop for Heads of Administration and Human Resource Officers in the Local Government Service. The workshop, which took place at the OLGE&T Training School, First Secretariat, Ikeja, forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen institutional leadership at the grassroots level.

With the theme “Teamwork and Conflict Resolution for Effective Local Government Management,” the workshop was designed to strengthen leadership capacity, promote collaboration, and equip participants with practical tools for managing workplace challenges within the local government system. The training focused on improving synergy among officers and ensuring that teamwork remains central to achieving efficient local governance.

Declaring the workshop open, the Permanent Secretary of OLGE&T, Mrs. Bibilomo Olushekun, commended the participants for their pivotal roles in maintaining discipline, fostering unity, and sustaining professionalism in the public service. She emphasised that effective local governance depends on competent administrative heads who can manage people, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive work culture.

Mrs. Olushekun further encouraged participants to embrace shared responsibility and apply the lessons learned from the training to strengthen operational harmony across all 57 councils. She noted that continuous capacity building remains key to achieving the state government’s vision of a responsive and people-centred public service that meets the needs of residents at the grassroots. .

The highlight of the workshop was a paper presentation by Mrs. R. Olubunmi Fabamwo, former Chairman of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission and Lead Consultant of Thrive Management Consultancy Limited. Speaking on the topic, “Teamwork and Conflict Resolution for Effective Local Government Management,” she underscored that effective local administration thrives on collaboration, shared vision, and the productive harnessing of individual strengths toward community development and improved service delivery. Participants described the workshop as timely and impactful, commending the Lagos State Government for its commitment to staff development and professional excellence.
