Orile-Agege General Hospital (OAGH) has taken a major step toward redefining its healthcare delivery with a strategic management retreat held at Orchid Hotel, Lekki. The retreat, themed "Re-inventing Healthcare Excellence: Balancing Innovation, People, and Sustainability," brought together healthcare leaders, administrators, and stakeholders to map out a forward-looking agenda for 2026. In her opening remarks, the Medical Director/CEO, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluyemi Taiwo, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to driving innovation, strengthening people-centred care, and building sustainable health systems that will serve the community more efficiently.

Dr. Taiwo explained that the retreat was designed to generate bold, actionable strategies aimed at improving service delivery across the hospital. She highlighted key areas the management seeks to strengthen, including technological adoption, staff well-being, leadership culture, and governance. The MD also noted improvements already recorded in infrastructure upgrades, reduced waiting times, and better patient care, while acknowledging the ongoing challenges posed by inflation and the “Japa” syndrome affecting human resources in Nigeria’s healthcare sector. She called for improved remuneration, modern equipment, and stronger support systems for healthcare workers.
In her address, the Chairman of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Mrs. Atinuke Onayiga, emphasized the need for OAGH to maintain high standards and plan strategically to stay competitive. She stressed the importance of identifying strengths and weaknesses within the healthcare system, prioritising capacity building, and focusing on efficiency. According to her, infrastructural development alone cannot guarantee quality healthcare; a well-trained, motivated workforce is essential to maximise the value of these investments.
The retreat also featured an insightful presentation by Dr. Adedamola Dada of Redeemer’s Health Village, who underscored the importance of innovation and technological advancement in modern healthcare. He advocated for OAGH to invest in endoscopy equipment and training, noting that endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that improves diagnostic accuracy, reduces complications, and enhances patient recovery. Dr. Dada also highlighted the need for continuous professional development, proper utilisation of data for planning, and strategic patient engagement to strengthen the hospital’s service delivery..

The retreat concluded with a unified commitment from the hospital’s leadership and staff to prioritise innovation, people, and sustainability in all aspects of care. With plans to invest in advanced medical technologies, improve facilities, and strengthen collaboration across departments, OAGH aims to deliver top-quality healthcare to its growing patient population. The management reiterated that teamwork, capacity-building, and strategic planning will remain central to the hospital’s mission of achieving healthcare excellence.
