the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, highlighted the dual challenges facing Lagos as it grows into a global economic hub: rapid urbanisation and insufficient wastewater management. He noted that while the State government has invested significantly in sanitation infrastructure, unhealthy and illegal wastewater disposal practices continue to threaten public health and environmental sustainability.

Represented by Dr. Hassan Sanuth, Director of Sanitation Services, the Commissioner emphasised the forum’s critical role in raising awareness about proper sanitation practices, particularly in densely populated areas such as Lekki and Eti-Osa. He called on stakeholders to actively participate in shaping the future of sanitation and public health for millions of Lagosians, stressing that collaboration is key to addressing the State’s wastewater challenges.

Hon. Engr. Rasheed Adebola Shabi, Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, encouraged stakeholders to lead by example, urging citizens to adopt sustainable wastewater practices. He further reassured that the Lagos State House of Assembly would continue supporting legislative measures to strengthen proper sanitation practices and environmental protection across the State.
