The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has officially launched the 2025 "Light Up Lagos" Festive Illumination, an initiative sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc to beautify the state and boost tourism during the Yuletide season. The ceremony, held at the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Monument in Ikeja, saw the Commissioner, represented by Mrs. Olajumoke James, commend Nigerian Breweries for championing a project that successfully blends aesthetics, community bonding, and economic value. The initiative is set to significantly contribute to the state's creative and tourism landscape.

In her keynote address, the Commissioner highlighted that the "Light Up Lagos" initiative aligns perfectly with the government's T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, specifically in promoting tourism, enhancing social cohesion, and positioning Lagos as a global hub for culture, entertainment, and innovation. The illumination of the Awolowo Monument and Obafemi Awolowo Way is described as not only visually stunning but also a powerful symbol of unity, shared joy, and the vibrant spirit of the Lagos community. This project serves as a key strategy in enhancing the city's appeal as a world-class destination.
A significant aspect of the initiative is its incorporation of community engagement activities, including live performances, creative showcases, and youth-centered artistic expressions. Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka expressed delight that these activities are designed to stimulate local commerce, provide safe family entertainment, and deepen cultural appreciation across the state. This comprehensive approach ensures that the project delivers tangible social and economic benefits to the residents, extending beyond mere decoration.
The Commissioner also took the opportunity to applaud Maltina, the flagship brand sponsoring this year's activation, for its exemplary Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) demonstrated through its long-standing partnership with the Lagos State Government. She strongly emphasized the necessity of sustained public-private collaborations as a critical factor in the expansion and success of the State’s tourism economy. This partnership model is viewed as essential for driving infrastructural and cultural improvements in Lagos.

the Commissioner reaffirmed the State Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting tourism, arts, and culture, noting the intentional creation of experiences to attract visitors and encourage investment. She urged all residents to enjoy the festive celebrations responsibly and fully participate in the lined-up activities. The government officially reiterated its appreciation to Nigerian Breweries Plc for its continuous support in enhancing the aesthetic and cultural vibrancy of Lagos during the festive season.
