The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has received special recognition for its exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability during the 25th National Women’s Conference of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The honour, presented through the COWLSO Impact Awards, celebrated individuals and institutions whose efforts have significantly advanced the development and well-being of Lagos State. LASPARK was commended for its continuous dedication to fostering a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment across the state.

The Agency’s various initiatives, including tree planting campaigns, urban beautification projects, and the creation of eco-friendly recreational spaces, were highlighted as exemplary steps toward environmental preservation. These initiatives align with the Lagos State Government’s broader vision of building a sustainable, climate-resilient city that balances growth with ecological responsibility. LASPARK’s work has continued to inspire environmental awareness and action among residents, reinforcing the importance of collective participation in protecting natural resources.
Speaking after receiving the award, the General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, expressed her gratitude to COWLSO and the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who also serves as COWLSO Chairman, for the honour. She reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to maintaining and expanding green infrastructure across the state, noting that such recognition serves as a motivation to do more in promoting environmental stewardship.
Mrs. Popoola also emphasized that the award would encourage LASPARK to deepen its engagement with the public on environmental initiatives, particularly tree planting and ecosystem conservation. She mentioned that the Agency recently collaborated with COWLSO in the renovation of the Boys Correctional, Rehabilitation, and Vocational Training Centre in Isheri. LASPARK’s contribution included landscaping, tree planting, and the provision of a basketball court, outdoor gym, recreational equipment, park benches, waste bins, and a welcoming mural to create a serene, rehabilitative environment for residents and visitors.

The 25th anniversary edition of the COWLSO National Women’s Conference, themed “Building Legacy, Strengthening Institutions,” was attended by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, top government officials, dignitaries, and delegates from within and outside Lagos State. The event featured notable recognitions, insightful discussions, and the presentation of star prizes, including a new home and a GAC pickup truck, to outstanding participants. COWLSO’s celebration of 25 years of service reflected its enduring commitment to empowerment, institutional strengthening, and community development across Lagos State.
