The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), in partnership with the Raising Stars Africa Foundation, has commissioned four newly upgraded classroom blocks at Aganju Iku Inclusive Primary School II in Okokomaiko, Ojo Local Government, as part of a strategic effort to strengthen social inclusion and expand equitable access to quality education for all learners. The initiative marks another step in the state’s commitment to ensuring that children with disabilities receive the support and learning environment they need to thrive.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, emphasized the critical role of inclusive education in identifying and supporting children with special needs from an early age. She noted that every child, irrespective of ability, deserves a learning environment tailored to their growth and development, reaffirming Lagos State’s dedication to ensuring no child is left behind.
Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal highlighted the unwavering commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to expanding access to inclusive education across the state. She called on school authorities and community stakeholders to take ownership of the newly upgraded facilities and prioritize their maintenance to ensure long-term sustainability for future generations of pupils.
The upgraded blocks were officially handed over to the Education Secretary of Ojo Local Government, Hon. Kolawole Abiola, and the Head of the School’s Inclusive Unit, Alhaja Fatima Alade Ayopo. Both officials applauded the Lagos State Government and its partners, stating that the project would significantly enhance learning opportunities for children in the community, especially those with special educational needs.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of Social Development and Integration at LASODA, Mr. Akeem Kelani, described the development as part of the state’s commitment to its broader social responsibility agenda. The newly commissioned classroom blocks are equipped with modern desks, chairs, and marker boards, providing a conducive learning environment that is expected to foster improved academic engagement and better learning outcomes for pupils in the inclusive school.
