LASODA Celebrates Children With Disabilities In Lagos

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) on Saturday, November 8, 2025, held a special celebration tagged “Listen to the Future” at the Ndubuisi Kanu Park, Alausa, Ikeja, in commemoration of the International Children’s Day. The event was dedicated to celebrating and empowering children with disabilities, underscoring the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for all. The occasion brought together children, parents, caregivers, and advocates, creating an atmosphere of joy, learning, and inspiration.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, who was represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Omolade Sonubi, expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his steadfast dedication to inclusive governance. She highlighted that the governor’s administration has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to policies and initiatives that ensure no one is left behind, especially persons with disabilities.
Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal emphasized the essence of the theme, “Listen to the Future,” by calling on society to give children with disabilities the platform and voice they deserve. She noted that the Lagos State Government continues to prioritize equality, inclusion, and accessibility, providing an enabling environment where every child regardless of physical or developmental challenges can thrive. She further urged stakeholders to continue supporting the state’s inclusive vision.
The LASODA General Manager also encouraged parents and guardians not to hide or feel ashamed of their children with disabilities but to proudly showcase their strengths and capabilities. She advocated for continuous sensitization and awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities, stressing the importance of educating families to nurture their children with love, confidence, and acceptance. According to her, empowering parents is key to empowering the next generation.

In her remarks, the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Orientation, Dr. Adekola O.T., expressed gratitude for the success of the event and lauded the LASODA management for its commitment to promoting inclusion. She reaffirmed the agency’s determination to strengthen future initiatives that support the growth, development, and well-being of children with disabilities in Lagos State. Dr. Adekola also called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that every child, regardless of ability, is given a fair chance to contribute meaningfully to society.
