The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has honoured the Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, as an ILERA EKO Champion in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the promotion of the Social Health Insurance Scheme in Lagos State. The Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, made this known during a courtesy visit and induction ceremony held at LASUTH. She commended Prof. Fabamwo for his unwavering commitment and support, describing him as the most Executive Order Compliant Provider on the ILERA EKO Network.

Represented by the Coordinator, Regulations, LASHMA, Mr. Tosin Awosika, Dr. Zamba praised the CMD for his exemplary leadership and continuous efforts in ensuring that more Lagos residents, especially healthcare workers, embrace health insurance. She noted that LASUTH has been instrumental in the success of the ILERA EKO Scheme, setting a benchmark for other healthcare institutions across the state.
Dr. Zamba further highlighted LASUTH’s pioneering role in supporting the ILERA EKO initiative. According to her, LASUTH was the first hospital in Lagos State to provide space for the establishment of an ILERA EKO registration kiosk, thereby simplifying the registration process for residents and visitors. In addition, the hospital created a dedicated pathway and a separate pharmacy for ILERA EKO enrollees to ensure efficiency and reduce patient waiting time.
The Permanent Secretary also recalled that following the signing of the Executive Order by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on July 16, 2024, LASUTH became the first medical facility in the state to publicly support and promote the order. She applauded the strong partnership between LASUTH and LASHMA, noting that their collaborative efforts align with the vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and ensuring that no Lagos resident is denied access to quality healthcare due to financial constraints.

In his response, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo expressed heartfelt appreciation to LASHMA for the recognition, stating that it would further strengthen his resolve to promote health insurance awareness within and beyond LASUTH. He affirmed that ILERA EKO represents a vision of hope and inclusivity, where every resident can access quality healthcare regardless of social or economic status. The CMD assured that LASUTH would continue to be a strong partner in driving the mission toward a healthier and more equitable Lagos.
