As the 2026 work year officially commenced, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, issued a clarion call to the state's public servants to rededicate themselves to excellence. Speaking at an inter-religious prayer service held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Agoro emphasized that the new year brings fresh opportunities to deliver on the government’s promises to the people. The event served as both a spiritual beginning and a strategic briefing for the thousands of employees who power the Lagos State bureaucracy.

A central theme of the Head of Service’s address was the government’s commitment to staff welfare as a prerequisite for high performance. Agoro highlighted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s recent approval of brand-new vehicles for substantive directors, a move aimed at enhancing the dignity and mobility of senior leadership. By linking welfare to productivity, the state government is fostering an environment where civil servants feel valued and motivated to go above and beyond their basic job descriptions.

In addition to traditional work-related updates, the event introduced a unique initiative aimed at promoting health and team spirit: the Head of Service Premier League. This new football competition is designed to encourage physical fitness and break down departmental silos through friendly sportsmanship. Agoro’s focus on the holistic well-being of staff ranging from their spiritual needs to their physical health reflects a modern approach to human resource management within the public sector.

The ceremony also featured contributions from other key leaders, including Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, and Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission. Both leaders echoed the call for professionalism and gratitude, urging officers to remain thankful for the opportunity to serve the state. The interfaith nature of the prayers underscored Lagos State’s unique culture of religious harmony, which serves as a stabilizing force within the civil service.

As the gathering dispersed, the mandate for 2026 was clear: a renewed focus on the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda. With the promotion of successful officers and the introduction of new welfare schemes, the Lagos State public service is poised for a year of impactful service delivery. The Head of Service’s message was a reminder that while the government provides the tools and the motivation, it is the dedication of every individual officer that will ultimately drive the "Greater Lagos" vision forward.
