The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Housing, Barr. Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, has reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening international collaboration in the housing and real estate sector, particularly with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in line with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s vision of building a modern, inclusive, and sustainable megacity. The visit followed an earlier engagement with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Nigeria, where the Lagos State delegation extended an invitation to Saudi delegates to participate in the 6th Lagos State Real Estate MarketPlace Conference and Exhibitions scheduled for December 16th and 17th, 2025. Themed “Shaping the Future of Lagos Mega City: Infrastructure, Investment, Innovation and Affordable Housing,” the event aims to position Lagos as a global hub for real estate investment and sustainable development.

During her visit to the Ministers, Barr. Odunuga-Bakare highlighted the economic benefits of fostering stronger collaboration between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, particularly in affordable housing delivery, infrastructure development, and technology-driven solutions for sustainable urban growth. She emphasized that Lagos State, under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, remains open to credible local and international partnerships to address the housing deficit and promote inclusive development. “The Lagos Real Estate MarketPlace Conference has become a credible platform for meaningful engagement between government, investors, developers, and professionals within the real estate value chain,” she stated.

In his response, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, commended the Lagos State Government for its proactive approach to housing and real estate innovation. He described the MarketPlace Conference as a flagship initiative that aligns with the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda on affordable housing. Dangiwa noted that collaboration between Lagos and Saudi Arabia offers immense potential for attracting foreign investments and technical expertise that can accelerate infrastructure renewal nationwide, revealing that the Federal Government is set to commission 2,000 units of renewed hope housing projects across Nigeria.

Also speaking, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, underscored the importance of strengthening Nigeria-Saudi Arabia bilateral relations beyond traditional sectors. He noted that Lagos’ engagement reflects how sub-national governments can complement national efforts toward sustainable development and international cooperation. Barr. Odunuga-Bakare, in her closing remarks, expressed appreciation to both Ministers for their support and reiterated that the forthcoming conference would further showcase Lagos as a thriving investment destination for global partners in real estate, innovation, and infrastructure development.
