Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of the state government's commitment to ensuring a successful hosting of the 2026 CAF Awards.

Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Sunday when he received a CAF delegation led by Dr Christian Emeruwa, the organisation's Project Lead for the CAF Awards and General Assembly, at Lagos House, Marina.

The governor said the state would make adequate arrangements for security, transportation logistics, publicity and access to the event venue to ensure a smooth experience for participants and visitors.

He described Lagos as a major centre for commerce, culture, entertainment and technology in Africa, noting that its diverse population and economic importance made it suitable for hosting international events.

Sanwo-Olu added that the ceremony would provide an opportunity for Lagos to showcase its hospitality and organisational capacity to football stakeholders and international guests.

Speaking during the visit, Emeruwa disclosed that the CAF delegation was in Nigeria for a five-day assessment mission to evaluate preparations for the awards ceremony in Lagos and the CAF General Assembly scheduled to hold in Abuja.

He explained that the annual awards recognise outstanding achievements by African footballers, national teams and officials across different categories.

According to him, the December 7 ceremony is expected to attract prominent personalities from African and international football, including representatives of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Emeruwa also appealed to the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) to support publicity efforts and facilitate branding across the state ahead of the event.

He further requested that the Lagos State Government take the lead in coordinating security operations for the ceremony in collaboration with CAF's security team.
