The Lagos State Government held a special end-of-year ceremony to fete and reward the operatives of the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang (EFAG). These "drainage heroes" were recognized for their tireless efforts in ensuring a sustainable, flood-free Lagos throughout the rainy season.

Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi Akodu, noted that while rainfall in 2025 was higher than previous years, the state recorded minimal flooding thanks to the team's preparation. He emphasized that the government would continue providing the tools necessary for their success.
The EFAG team has been instrumental in cleaning secondary drains and manholes across all 52 Local Government and Council Development Areas. Their work is particularly vital given Lagos's geography as a coastal state highly susceptible to the effects of global warming.
The event featured awards and cash prizes for various categories, including Best Zonal Operatives and Best Overall Supervisor. These rewards serve as a motivation for the team to remain committed to their duties as they transition into the New Year.

The state also announced plans to ramp up public advocacy regarding proper waste disposal. Officials reminded residents that keeping the environment clean is a shared responsibility to ensure that the drainage systems remain free-flowing and effective.
