The Lagos State Government has continued its push for inclusive governance through civic engagement as it distributes nutritional food packs to expectant mothers under the Mother and Infant Child Development (MICHD) Programme. The initiative, led by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement (OPL&CE), is being implemented across all six health districts in the state. Recently flagged off at the Lagos State Health District IV, Akerele Primary Health Centre in Surulere, the fifth edition took place today at the Lagos State Health District II, Somolu Local Government Secretariat, with District I

Speaking at one of the sessions, the Permanent Secretary, OPL&CE, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore, said the initiative underscores the State Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Lagos resident especially mothers and children benefits from its inclusive development policies. She stressed that the MICHD programme goes beyond distributing food packs; it expands civic engagement from dialogue to direct social empowerment, helping expectant mothers become active partners in building a resilient and productive Lagos.
Engr. Shasore added that the programme strengthens the foundational unit of society by engaging expectant mothers and ensuring no generation is left behind in the dividends of good governance. She emphasized that the initiative reflects compassionate governance, highlighting that the Lagos State Government is listening to its citizens and responding to their needs. She encouraged beneficiaries to see the support as proof that they are valued and included in the state’s development agenda.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District II, Dr. Dayo Lajide, commended the State Government’s efforts in supporting residents through impactful initiatives like MICHD. She highlighted the “Ilera Eko” Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (LASHMA) as another important programme designed to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable.
