The Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, has emphasized the crucial role of young entrepreneurs, developers and innovators in shaping a prosperous future for Lagos State. He made this known during his keynote address as Special Guest at the CODEFEST Nigerian Hackathon Expo & Awards 2025, held at the University of Lagos, Akoka. Represented by Mrs. Kudirat Aderonke Bello, Director of Administration and Human Resources, he applauded the initiative for nurturing innovation among Nigerian youths.

The Commissioner commended Codefest Nigeria for its impressive achievements, including the development of 92 innovative tech solutions and its recognition in the Guinness World Records. He described the platform as a powerful symbol of Nigerian creativity, resilience and global potential. Ajigbotafe noted that the Ministry remains committed to turning youth potential into prosperity through targeted investment in skill development, entrepreneurship support and employment creation.

Highlighting the evolving nature of wealth creation, Ajigbotafe stressed that future prosperity will come not from physical resources but from ideas and digital innovation. He encouraged participants to view every solution showcased at the Hackathon as a potential business, job creator and tool for improving the quality of life for Lagos residents. “In today’s world, wealth is created by digging for ideas,” he said, urging youths to remain bold, curious and driven.

He further challenged innovators to design solutions that address everyday issues, such as enhancing Primary Healthcare delivery, reducing traffic congestion and expanding access to employment opportunities. Ajigbotafe assured that the Lagos State Government is ready to collaborate with developers and deploy viable solutions across ministries and agencies. This, he said, aligns with the State’s long-term vision of building a smart, inclusive and innovation-driven economy.

The event also featured insightful presentations, including one from Mr. Vinod Kaurati, CEO of Triberry Nigeria, who highlighted the transformative impact of Automation, AI and Cloud Technology. He projected that Africa will emerge a global tech leader by 2030, with Nigeria needing up to 30 million tech professionals. Another highlight was the display of a remote-controlled car built from simple trash materials by young innovator Israel Destiny, drawing admiration from participants. The Commissioner praised Codefest International and the University of Lagos for empowering young talents and strengthening the innovation ecosystem, reaffirming Lagos State’s commitment to nurturing creativity and building a future-ready workforce.
