As the year-end festivities approach, the Lagos State Drivers' Institute (LASDRI) has issued a fresh warning to motorists to prioritize road safety. General Manager Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu released a Christmas message highlighting the risks associated with increased traffic, festive celebrations, and the hazy weather typical of the season. She reminded the public that the "greatest gift" anyone can give their family is a safe arrival at their destination.

The General Manager outlined several critical safety measures, including the strict avoidance of drunk driving and mobile phone distractions. She also emphasized the importance of adequate rest to combat fatigue, which is a leading cause of accidents during long-distance holiday travel. Motorists were urged to obey speed limits and ensure that all passengers, including those in the rear seats, utilize seatbelts at all times.
In addition to driver behavior, LASDRI advised motorists to plan their trips carefully to avoid the most congested routes. By leaving early and driving at a controlled pace, drivers can reduce the stress associated with holiday traffic. Mrs. Tiamiyu also noted that staying away from potentially hazardous road conditions helps emergency services focus their resources on genuine, unpreventable emergencies rather than avoidable crashes.
To further support road safety, LASDRI encouraged all professional and private drivers to take advantage of the institute’s training centers. With 15 locations across Lagos, the institute offers annual opportunities for drivers to upgrade their skills and stay informed about current traffic laws. This continuous education is seen as a key strategy in maintaining order on Lagos roads during and after the festive period.

The message concluded with a plea for collective responsibility. LASDRI maintains that while the government provides the framework for safety, the ultimate responsibility lies with the person behind the wheel. As the "Greater Lagos Rising" initiative continues, the institute remains dedicated to ensuring that the state's transportation network is both efficient and safe for all residents during the most wonderful time of the year.
