The Provost of the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), Professor Raheem Olasupo Akewushola, delivered a stirring message to the newly admitted students during their 2025/2026 Academic Session orientation, urging them to "re-jingle their mindsets" and fully embrace the right attitude for academic and professional success. He stressed that securing admission was only the beginning and that the journey to becoming competent healthcare professionals requires a fundamental shift in perspective towards positive thinking, self-belief, and aligning their actions with the high values and standards expected in the healthcare profession.

A key focus of the Provost's address was the institution's strict adherence to discipline and code of conduct. Professor Akewushola reiterated LASCOHET's zero tolerance for misconduct, clearly warning the fresh students that any breach of the College's established rules would inevitably lead to serious disciplinary measures. He positioned the orientation programme as an essential first step, designed to provide every student with a clear, unambiguous understanding of the College’s expectations, rules, and core culture, thus ensuring they begin their professional development journey on the correct footing.
Beyond just avoiding misconduct, the Provost provided clear directives on the habits necessary for success. He urged the students to cultivate a strong work ethic "from the onset," to diligently avoid immoral behaviours that historically lead to failure, and to maintain the practical responsibilities of timely fee payment, course registration, and absolute punctuality and regular attendance at all lectures and practical sessions. The message was holistic, covering both moral and administrative discipline necessary for sustained academic performance.
Complementing the Provost's charge, Honourable Samuel Olawale Kappo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, further cautioned the students against critical pitfalls such as drug abuse and examination malpractice, both of which have the potential to permanently derail their futures. He emphasised that discipline is a non-negotiable guiding principle and stressed that the reputation and safety of the College are a joint responsibility, urging prompt reporting of any suspicious activity or misconduct to the appropriate authorities.

The overall theme of the orientation was a powerful blend of encouragement and strict adherence to professional standards. Dr Oluwaseyi Gabriel Adeware of De-Potter College of Health Technology also advised the students to fully appreciate the rare opportunity they have secured at LASCOHET. The collective message from the leadership was clear: focus, hard work, discipline, and a positive belief in oneself are the essential ingredients that will ensure their efforts are ultimately crowned with success as distinguished healthcare practitioners.
