The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) has successfully concluded a three-day leadership and capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing professionalism, empathy, and public trust among its senior officers and zonal heads. The initiative was designed to strengthen leadership capabilities and improve service delivery standards across the agency, aligning with the state government’s broader vision of a disciplined and citizen-focused public service

The training, themed “Behind the VIO Badge: Transforming Perceptions, Building Trust,” was organised in collaboration with the Civility Institute of Nigeria. It focused on equipping participants with essential skills in modern leadership, emotional intelligence, and ethical communication. The workshop emphasized the importance of human relations and integrity in everyday interactions between Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) and the motoring public.
Director of VIS, Engr. Akin-George Fashola, described the programme as a pivotal step in the Service’s ongoing reform agenda. He highlighted that the initiative was designed to rebuild public confidence in the VIS brand while promoting civility and professionalism in its operations. According to him, the training would help officers become true ambassadors of safety, discipline, and integrity in Lagos State’s transport sector.
Fashola further stated that the Service is committed to fostering a culture of responsibility and ethical conduct among its officers. “We want our officers to be ambassadors of safety, discipline, and integrity. This programme reinforces the values that define our identity behind the uniform,” he said. He noted that the training also sought to reshape public perception of VIOs by emphasizing empathy and professionalism in law enforcement practices.

He reaffirmed that the initiative forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader commitment to building a disciplined, responsive, and service-driven workforce. Through such capacity-building programmes, the VIS aims to reposition itself as a people-centred institution that upholds the values of transparency, accountability, and efficiency in traffic and transport management across the state.
