In a major boost for local sports, the Lagos State Government, in partnership with TECNO, has unveiled an 8-aside AstroTurf pitch known as the "Sanwo-Olu Mini Stadium." Located at the Sura under-bridge on Lagos Island, the facility transforms a previously underutilized space into a modern training ground. This project reflects the state's commitment to youth engagement through sports development.

Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, praised the collaboration as a vital corporate social responsibility initiative. He noted that such infrastructure is essential for nurturing local talent to meet international standards. The commission has pledged to work closely with the community to ensure the facility is well-maintained for future generations.

The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, emphasized that the stadium is a tool for social intervention. By providing a dedicated space for sports, the government aims to keep youth off the streets and engage them in meaningful, productive activities. He noted that such partnerships are necessary because the government cannot achieve these goals alone.

TECNO’s Marketing Manager, Olumide Yomi-Omolayo, highlighted the company’s vision of supporting the future of African football. By investing in grassroots infrastructure, the brand hopes to empower aspiring athletes on Lagos Island to achieve their full potential. The pitch is designed to be a hub where the next generation of football stars can hone their skills.

This project is part of a broader plan by Governor Sanwo-Olu to construct eight mini-stadia across the state. The government is also encouraging other corporate partners to invest in facilities for diverse sports beyond football. The unveiling marks a significant step in making high-quality sporting infrastructure accessible to every neighborhood in Lagos.
