Lagos State has reaffirmed its status as Africa’s creative hub as it prepares to host the ninth edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA). The event, which runs from January 7 to 11, aims to strengthen the continental music ecosystem. Activities include a Music Business Summit, the AFRIMA Music Village concert at Ikeja City Mall, and a grand finale at Eko Hotels and Suites.

Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, announced that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration remains dedicated to supporting the creative industry. She described Lagos as the "cultural capital of Africa," emphasizing the importance of cross-cultural collaboration. The government views music and culture as vital drivers of economic development and international diplomacy.

The event is a collaborative effort involving the African Union and strategic partners like the British High Commission. According to the Commissioner, AFRIMA provides a massive platform for youth empowerment and global visibility. It is expected to draw thousands of artists, producers, and industry leaders to the state, significantly boosting the local tourism economy.

AFRIMA President, Mr. Mike Dada, noted that Lagos was chosen as the host city due to its superior infrastructure and cultural influence. He explained that the awards align with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, promoting peace-building and continental integration. The event serves as more than just a ceremony; it is a catalyst for African unity through the arts.

To ensure wide participation, the state government is facilitating the distribution of 6,000 free tickets for the Music Village concert. Co-producer Mr. Olisa Adibua praised the state for its practical support of the creative economy. With over 16 artists and 277 crew members involved, the week-long celebration promises to be a historic milestone for African music.
