The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its staunch commitment to fostering a truly inclusive society as the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) commemorated the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). The event, held in Ikeja, was a powerful statement on the administration's focus on access, dignity, and ensuring equal opportunities for all residents, particularly persons with disabilities (PWDs).

TheGovernor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, addressed hundreds of PWDs and stakeholders, underscoring that access for this community is a defining marker of effective governance. He stressed that the administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda places a strong emphasis on social inclusion, with ongoing reforms in transportation, health, and education strategically designed to eliminate barriers and expand opportunities for vulnerable groups.
The Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, commended LASODA’s leadership, noting that Lagos has consistently leveraged the unique talents and innovation of PWDs, remaining resolute in its commitment to creating systems that allow them to thrive. The General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, affirmed the office’s mandate to drive transformative policies, emphasizing that the global commemoration served as an opportunity to review progress and align with international best practices.
Oyetunde-Lawal highlighted that the 2025 focus zeroed in on four critical pillars Transportation, Education, Health, and Technology as the systems most essential to shaping the daily lives of PWDs. The outcomes from the day's panel discussions are set to directly inform LASODA’s 2026 advocacy priorities, ensuring that the commitment to inclusion is deeply embedded within mainstream policy and governance structures across the state.

A significant and tangible highlight of the event was the distribution of over 200 various assistive devices, including mobility aids, educational tools, and communication-support technologies, to individuals with disabilities. This practical demonstration of support, coupled with the presentation of awards to outstanding contributors like Lagos Television and The Punch newspapers, solidifies the government's pledge to build a resilient and supportive environment where every Lagos resident is seen, heard, and supported
