The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, took decisive enforcement action by sealing a residential estate at No. 96B, Ladipo Omotesho Street, Lekki Phase I. The closure was prompted by persistent environmental nuisances and the reported obstruction of state officials during their statutory duties. Facility managers and residents allegedly hindered the agency’s efforts to maintain public health standards within the area.

Speaking on the exercise, General Manager Engr. Adefemi Afolabi explained that the action followed repeated complaints and multiple notices served to the estate regarding the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater. Despite these warnings, the estate failed to address its poor sewage management practices. Furthermore, officials reported deliberate attempts by the estate’s management to prevent LSWMO officers from conducting routine inspections and compliance monitoring.
Engr. Afolabi noted that the failure to remedy these infractions posed significant health and environmental risks to the surrounding community. The sealing-off was conducted in strict compliance with Lagos State environmental laws, which mandate the protection of public safety. He emphasized that the premises will remain closed until all observed violations are fully corrected and verified by the agency’s technical team.
The General Manager issued a stern warning against the harassment or interference with authorized officers in the discharge of their duties. He condemned the act of obstruction, stating that such behavior would no longer be tolerated. He urged individuals and organizations to cooperate with enforcement teams to ensure that the state's environmental goals are met without conflict.

Reaffirming the state’s commitment to sustainable wastewater management, the LSWMO implored residents to adopt proper hygiene practices to avoid sanctions or prosecution. Citizens are encouraged to report environmental infractions through the agency’s official hotlines or social media platforms. The office remains dedicated to safeguarding public health and ensuring a cleaner environment for all Lagosians
