The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB), joined the National Association of Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NATMP) to commemorate African Traditional Medicine Day on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. The event was held at the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Secretariat, Lagos, bringing together practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders in the traditional medicine sector.

Delivering the keynote address, the Acting Registrar of LSTMB, Mr. Hakeem Bello, spoke on the theme, "Way Forward in African Traditional Medicine." He highlighted the rich heritage and importance of traditional medicine in complementing modern healthcare in Nigeria and across Africa.
Bello emphasised the need for practitioners to remain united and organised. “For traditional medicine to maintain its relevance and earn respect, it is essential that practitioners operate under a structured and cohesive community,” he stated.
He further noted that a well-coordinated network of practitioners is key to gaining recognition, support, and value from the government, adding that such collaboration would enhance regulation, training, and public trust in traditional medicine practices.

The commemoration also featured discussions on innovation, safety, and opportunities for integration of traditional medicine into mainstream healthcare. Participants applauded the Lagos State Government’s commitment to promoting and preserving indigenous healing practices while encouraging professional standards among practitioners.
