The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), convened a comprehensive stakeholder engagement session to review and validate the State’s Second Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of the Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative underscores Lagos’ commitment to inclusive governance, transparency, and evidence-based policymaking

The session, held at Radisson Hotel, Ikeja, was declared open by the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih. She highlighted the significance of the VLR as a strategic roadmap for strengthening governance, fostering inclusiveness, and ensuring that development initiatives deliver tangible impact for residents across the state.
Dr. Finnih explained that the VLR process is more than a reporting exercise. “It is a dynamic mechanism that promotes inclusion, accountability, and stronger governance frameworks at the subnational level,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in achieving sustainable development objectives.
Participants engaged in detailed discussions on strategies for effective implementation of the SDGs, as well as ways to monitor progress and integrate feedback from citizens to enhance the effectiveness of government policies..

The review process also aims to align Lagos State’s development priorities with national and global SDG frameworks, demonstrating the state’s commitment to sustainable development and its leadership role in advancing the 2030 Agenda.
