The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has urged broadcasters to prioritise effective information dissemination at the grassroots, stressing that their voices are vital in amplifying the Lagos State Government’s THEMES Plus Agenda. He gave the charge during a one-day forum organised by the Association of Broadcasters (AMBROAD), Lagos State Chapter, themed “Information Dissemination to the Grassroots: An Underrated Panacea to Social Reform, Economic Stability, and Global Peace.”

Represented by the Director of the Strategy Centre, Mr. Kayode Oyekanmi, Omotoso highlighted the critical role broadcasters play in shaping public opinion, driving behavioural change, and fostering community engagement. He noted that accurate and timely information connects government to the governed, citizens to opportunities, and decision-makers to communities.

The Commissioner emphasised that the Sanwo-Olu-led administration views communication as central to governance and not an afterthought. He explained that the success of government policies and reforms depends largely on how effectively they are communicated, especially to residents at the grassroots. “It is our duty as communicators to ensure that no resident, regardless of education or location, is left behind in the information flow,” he stated.

Omotoso further stressed the importance of responsibility, accuracy, and integrity in broadcasting, reminding media professionals that the public often believes what they say—whether good or bad. He noted that the Ministry of Information and Strategy continues to explore multiple communication platforms to ensure inclusivity and transparency in government messaging.

The forum reinforced the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strategic communication as a tool for social reform, economic stability, and peacebuilding. It also served as a platform for stakeholders to share insights on promoting responsible broadcasting and enhancing the role of media in driving positive change across all levels of society.
