The Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), joined the global community today to mark International Volunteers Day with a dynamic and vibrant roadshow rally across the Ikeja metropolis. The colourful event was designed as a high-visibility public demonstration to honor and highlight the indispensable role played by volunteers in advancing community development and strengthening the state's overall social cohesion.

The rally brought together a diverse and energetic contingent of volunteers, youth groups, civil society organizations, development partners, and government officials. Participants marched through key areas, holding banners and placards that bore powerful messages centered on selfless service, compassion, and the necessity of collective responsibility in achieving developmental goals.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Office of SDGs, Mrs. Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi, offered commendation for the unwavering commitment demonstrated by volunteers across Lagos. She stressed that these individuals play a critical role in advancing the State’s ambitious vision of an inclusive and truly sustainable society, acting as the bedrock for various humanitarian and developmental initiatives.
Sarumi clearly articulated that the roadshow served a dual purpose: to celebrate the current efforts and to issue a strong public call for a renewed dedication to volunteerism. She specifically encouraged greater participation in vital areas such as climate action, environmental preservation, health advocacy, and youth empowerment, noting that volunteerism entails 'selflessness, sacrifice, service, and support.'

The Permanent Secretary further emphasized the commitment of the Lagos State Government to actively provide enabling platforms for citizen engagement. She affirmed that increased public participation through volunteer efforts can significantly accelerate the state's progress toward achieving the broader Sustainable Development Goals. The event concluded with the Office of SDGs reaffirming its resolve to continue creating meaningful opportunities for citizens to contribute to building a more resilient and prosperous Lagos.
