The Lagos State Government marked a significant milestone by celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Lagos State Office of SDGs, aligning with the global observance of SDG Week. The event highlighted a decade of impactful progress toward advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the state.

Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, traced the Office's institutional evolution from its 2015 origins as the Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment, through its transformation into the current Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals in 2023. This strategic restructuring, aligned with Governor Sanwo-Olu's THEMES Plus Agenda, has strengthened the state's capacity to integrate the global goals into governance and service delivery.

Lagos has emerged as a model in Africa for its ability to operationalize the SDGs at scale, translating the global agenda into measurable actions across vital sectors like healthcare, climate resilience, and economic growth. Key achievements highlighted include the Voluntary Local Review (VLR), the financial inclusion initiative for women in coastal communities, and the creation of the pioneering Lagos Carbon Registry for subnational climate accounting.

The ceremony also recognized outstanding individuals and partners with Special Recognition Awards for their contributions to advancing the SDGs at the grassroots level. The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi, closed the event by reaffirming the Office's commitment to deepening cross-sector collaboration, deploying advanced data systems, and accelerating community-focused programs.

The anniversary event, which included a documentary, technical presentation, and networking, served as both a moment of reflection on past successes and a renewed call to action, cementing the state's dedication to ensuring that development touches even the most underserved communities
