Declaring the event open on behalf of the Director-General, Mr. Lanre Mojola, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Dr. (Mrs.) Adetola Akindele, emphasized that safety is everyone’s responsibility and must remain a shared value guiding all human, industrial, and environmental activities in Lagos. In his welcome address delivered by Dr. Akindele, Mr. Mojola described the forum as a “strategic platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and strengthening partnerships between government agencies, private stakeholders, and community actors.”

He noted that as Lagos continues to expand as a megacity, challenges associated with urbanization, industrial growth, and population density demand proactive measures in safety and emergency preparedness. According to him, “the true success of our collective efforts depends on how effectively we cultivate a sustainable safety culture built on awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement.” Mojola further highlighted ongoing reforms within the Commission, including safety audits, risk management advocacy, and proactive emergency response initiatives, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to creating a safer and more resilient Lagos.

Delivering a keynote paper titled “Emerging Trends in Leadership and Collaboration,” international leadership expert Mr. Olanrewaju Akinnuoye stressed the importance of accurate data in decision-making and cautioned against the mishandling of information in safety management. He stated that credible data is key to effective safety leadership and urged stakeholders to embed collaboration and innovation into their operational frameworks to improve crisis response and risk mitigation.
