The Lagos State Government has announced that repair works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area will resume on Wednesday, September 3, following a comprehensive review of its traffic management strategy.

The project, which was suspended two weeks ago after the initial phase caused severe traffic congestion and security incidents, will now proceed under a revised diversion plan aimed at reducing travel delays and ensuring safety.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed on Tuesday that the government had adjusted its approach after feedback from motorists and security agencies. He assured road users that vehicular flow would be largely unhindered outside the immediate repair zone.

“Traffic will generally flow except around the work zone. Vehicles will be diverted into one lane of the three-lane carriageway about 50 metres before the repair section and will regain full access shortly after,” Osiyemi said.

Revised alternative routes:

  • Inbound Oshodi/VI from Lagos–Ibadan Expressway/Toll Gate: Motorists are advised to use the Ojota Slip Road to connect Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony) and proceed to Oshodi.

  • For Victoria Island-bound traffic: Drivers may link Ikorodu Road via Town Planning Way to Gbagada, then access Third Mainland Bridge, or continue on Ikorodu Road to Funsho Williams Avenue and use Eko Bridge.

  • Inbound Oshodi/VI from Ikeja and environs: Vehicles should pass through Maryland to connect Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue via Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. They may also access Ikorodu Road at Anthony (Taxi Park) to link Oshodi.

The commissioner urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officers, maintain lane discipline, and adhere to designated diversions, stressing that the inconvenience would be temporary and necessary for the long-term improvement of road infrastructure.

The state government also disclosed that it is working closely with security agencies to prevent traffic robberies and other criminal activities that plagued the corridor during the previous closure.

The phased rehabilitation of the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge is part of Lagos’ broader infrastructure upgrade programme aimed at strengthening road networks, improving traffic flow, and enhancing commuter safety.
