Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is leading the charge for fiscal transformation, declaring at the Lagos Tax Reform Summit that the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national tax laws depends on state-level execution. The Governor made it clear that Lagos is not just waiting for federal directives but is actively preparing to bring these reforms to life.

In a proactive move, the Governor revealed that Lagos has already begun adjusting its revenue portal to accommodate the new tax framework, which is expected to take effect in January. He stated that the primary duty of the government is to ensure that high-level policy translates into real-world benefits for local businesses, workers, and families.
Addressing public concerns, Sanwo-Olu debunked fears that the reforms would unfairly burden the poor. He clarified that the goal of the new law is to protect small businesses, ensure the wealthy meet their financial obligations, and close revenue leakages that have long hindered the state’s developmental potential.
The Governor praised President Tinubu’s courage in fixing a broken system, acknowledging that while the transition is difficult, real progress is already being felt. He noted that for a rapidly growing population like Lagos, relying on strong, home-grown revenue is the only sustainable way to keep delivering essential public services.

The summit concluded with a clear message of alignment between the state and the federal government. By turning reform into action, Lagos aims to create a fairer, more transparent tax system that supports the administration’s broader vision of a greater and more prosperous state..
