Lagos has strengthened its position as Africa’s esports hub by successfully hosting GamrX 2025, the continent’s largest competitive gaming tournament.

The event, held on Friday at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, brought together over 1,000 gamers from more than 13 countries. Competitors battled for titles in Street Fighter, Red Bull Kumite, EA FC, Mortal Kombat, PUBG Mobile, and Call of Duty Mobile, with a multi-million-naira prize pool at stake.

Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, who represented the Lagos State Government, confirmed that the fourth edition of GamrX Africa featured participants from nine African nations vying for a total cash prize of ₦15 million.

Mr. Fatodu explained that the state’s support for the tournament reflects its commitment to unlocking the economic potential of esports. He praised the organizers and participants for their dedication and sportsmanship, stating:

“On behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, we commend your investment in creativity, your passion, and your commitment to building a thriving ecosystem for sports and innovation. Lagos will continue to support this event to ensure it grows bigger every year.”

He expressed optimism that future editions would attract even more countries, positioning Lagos as a global reference point in competitive gaming.

“Currently, we have nine countries participating. Next year, we hope to double that number and make this tournament a benchmark for the global gaming community,” he added.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to fostering innovation, youth engagement, and investment opportunities through events like GamrX
