The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture, led by its Chairman, Hon. Solomon Bonu, in collaboration with the Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Hon. Desmond Elliot, recently embarked on an inspection tour of key ongoing monument projects under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. The tour reflects the State’s continued commitment to enhancing its cultural infrastructure and promoting Lagos as a global destination for arts and heritage.

They were joined by top officials from the Ministry, including the Director of Monuments Management Department, Mr. Ibrahim Ladejobi; Director of Facility Management, Mr. Abimbola Ogunshote; Deputy Director of Monuments Management, Mrs. Folashade Jide-Oyesola; as well as members of the Ministry’s technical and media units. The synergy between the lawmakers and the Ministry’s management team underscores a shared vision for effective oversight and the successful delivery of the State’s developmental projects.
The inspection covered two major projects the Head Busts of Past Governors and the Incumbent Governor at the Lagos State House, and the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos Theatre in Oregun. These projects represent significant milestones in preserving the State’s political and cultural history while enhancing its creative infrastructure for future generations.
At the Lagos Theatre, Oregun, the Committee members expressed satisfaction with the progress of work while also emphasizing the need for adherence to quality standards and timely completion. They highlighted the theatre’s potential to further boost Lagos’ status as the entertainment capital of Africa and provide a platform for local talents to showcase their creativity on a global stage.

The inspection exercise provided valuable insights and recommendations that will guide the Ministry and contractors in ensuring that all projects meet international standards. It also reinforced the government’s resolve to invest in cultural monuments and creative spaces that not only preserve Lagos’ rich heritage but also drive tourism, job creation, and economic growth across the State.
