In a bid to foster stronger collaboration between parents and education authorities, members of the Lagos Island Parents’ Forum paid a courtesy visit to the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of Education District III, TR. Olusegun Osinaike, at the District Headquarters in Falomo, Ikoyi. The visit was aimed at strengthening the partnership between schools and parents in the district to ensure better learning outcomes for students across Lagos Island

Welcoming the delegation, TR. Osinaike expressed delight in meeting the Forum members, noting that engaging with parents’ associations across all zones had been one of his top priorities since assuming office. He commended the Lagos Island team for their initiative and reiterated the importance of active parental involvement in the education system. According to him, parents play a pivotal role in encouraging children to attend school and stay focused on their studies, as persistence from home often determines a child’s long-term success.

Addressing internal challenges within the Forum, TR. Osinaike advised members to avoid leadership tussles and see their positions as opportunities to serve rather than as permanent titles. He emphasized that peaceful transitions are essential for maintaining the unity and credibility of the Forum. The TG/PS also reminded members that while education remains free in Lagos State, participation in Parents’ Forum activities should equally be open and free to all parents, cautioning against the collection of unauthorized levies or fees.

He further urged the Forum to always inform the district before embarking on any project or initiative involving schools to ensure transparency and effective coordination. TR. Osinaike reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance policy against extortion, warning that any teacher found demanding money from students would face disciplinary action. He encouraged parents to remain active partners in monitoring and supporting the moral and academic development of their children.

Responding on behalf of the delegation, the Chairman of the Lagos Island Parents’ Forum, Alhaji Shakirudeen, appreciated the TG/PS for his warm reception and expressed the Forum’s readiness to collaborate with the district leadership in promoting discipline, quality education, and moral values among students. He was supported by Chief Owolabi Jinadu, an executive member, who praised TR. Osinaike’s integrity and leadership, assuring that the Forum would work harmoniously to sustain peace and progress in Lagos Island schools. The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to a renewed partnership for educational excellence in the district.
