The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture & Food Systems, has once again taken a bold step to strengthen the state’s food security landscape by awarding a combined grant of N150,000,000.00 to 33 outstanding agripreneurs. The beneficiaries emerged from the highly competitive Lagos Agrithon initiative, a programme designed to identify, mentor, and uplift innovative minds shaping the future of agriculture. Their selection highlights the government’s commitment to encouraging youth participation and technological advancement in the agricultural sector.

The presentation of cheques took place at the Lagos Agrinnovation Summit 2.0, a flagship event that brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and agricultural innovators to explore sustainable solutions for food production and distribution. This year’s summit amplified the state’s drive towards building resilient agrifood systems capable of supporting Lagos’ rapidly growing population. The atmosphere was filled with celebration, inspiration, and renewed determination as winners shared their unique ideas and visions for modern farming.
Commissioner for Agriculture & Food Systems, in his address, emphasized that the Agrithon is more than a competition it is a strategic investment in young talent and a catalyst for transforming agriculture into a high-value enterprise. He noted that the state’s goal is to reduce reliance on food imports, enhance local production capacity, and empower entrepreneurs with both financial and technical support. By doing so, Lagos is positioning itself as a leading hub for agritech innovation in Nigeria.
The 33 awardees, drawn from diverse value chains including aquaculture, crop production, food processing, agri-logistics, and agritech, showcased groundbreaking solutions capable of changing the face of agriculture in Nigeria. Many of their innovations focused on climate-smart farming practices, digital technologies, sustainability, and value addition. With the grant, these agripreneurs are expected to scale their operations, expand job opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economic growth.

The Lagos Agrinnovation Summit 2.0 ended on a high note, with participants commending the state government for supporting entrepreneurship in a sector often overlooked by young people. The event reaffirmed Lagos State’s readiness to lead Africa’s agricultural transformation through strategic partnerships, innovation-driven policies, and inclusive empowerment programmes. As the beneficiaries begin their implementation journeys, the impact of the N150 million investment is set to ripple across communities and value chains in the months ahead.
