Lagos Commissioner Calls for Stronger Youth–Police Partnership to Enhance Security

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, has called on residents to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Police Youth Dialogue held at the Assbifi Event Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Ogunlende stressed that effective security requires collective responsibility and cooperation among all stakeholders..

He noted that the event’s theme, “The Power of Partnership: Cultivating Trust and Understanding Between Youth and Law Enforcement Agencies,” reflects the importance of bridging gaps, encouraging dialogue, and fostering safer communities. According to him, the Police Youth Dialogue offers a vital opportunity for young people and security operatives to interact, share perspectives, and build trust for a more peaceful society.

Ogunlende further emphasized that such engagements dispel misconceptions, promote empathy, and strengthen community policing efforts. “Through continuous dialogue, we can nurture shared responsibility for peace and progress in Lagos State,” he said.

In his remarks, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for initiating the programme, describing it as a platform that builds mutual understanding between the police and youths. He assured that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to sustaining this collaboration, which he said will prepare young people for leadership and civic engagement.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, noted that the dialogue demonstrates the government’s commitment to empowering young people as active partners in security. Representatives from the NPF, LASTMA, FRSC, NDLEA, and the Military were among participants at the event.
