The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, has officially inducted 126 legal practitioners into the office of Notaries Public. The ceremony, held at the Osborne High Court Complex in Ikoyi, featured a modern twist as 11 of the appointees participated virtually, showcasing the judiciary's adaptation to digital trends. During the swearing-in, Justice Alogba delivered a stern charge, reminding the new Notaries that their appointment is a call to high ethical responsibility.

Justice Alogba emphasized that the signature of a Notary Public carries immense legal weight, acting as a representative of the Judiciary itself. He warned the appointees to be meticulous in their duties, particularly in the verification of documents. "Your work has both national and international implications," the Chief Judge noted, stressing that any lapse in judgment or integrity could have far-reaching legal consequences for individuals and the state.

The Chief Judge further advised the legal practitioners to stay clear of fraudulent activities and to ensure all documents notarized are legal and genuine. He underscored that the authenticity of the legal system relies heavily on the gatekeeping roles played by Notaries. The appointees were encouraged to maintain the highest standards of authenticity, as their seal serves as a guarantee of truth in the eyes of the law.

Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in officers, Mrs. Opeyokun Gloria Adejoke Esq. pledged their commitment to the oath of office. She assured the Chief Judge and the Lagos State Judiciary that the new Notaries would discharge their duties with the utmost professionalism. The group promised to avoid any actions that could bring embarrassment to the legal profession or the state’s judicial system.

This induction is expected to facilitate smoother legal and commercial transactions across Lagos. As Notaries Public, these 126 individuals will now play a crucial role in authenticating deeds, contracts, and other vital documents. The ceremony concluded with a reminder that the Ministry of Justice will continue to monitor the conduct of all legal officers to ensure total compliance with statutory regulations.
