In a landmark move to preserve Yoruba heritage, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially commissioned the Eyo Monument at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan. Standing at a magnificent 32 feet tall, the statue now holds the record as the tallest Eyo monument ever created, serving as a towering symbol of Lagosian identity.

The Governor described the monument as far more than a work of art, calling it a vessel for the spirit of Yoruba heritage. He noted that the statue provides a physical landmark where visitors can learn about the history of Lagos and connect deeply with the stories of their ancestors, reinforcing the city's status as a cultural hub.
The project was curated by the renowned artist Dotun Popoola, whom the Governor praised for his care, depth, and creative execution. Sanwo-Olu used the occasion to celebrate Nigerian talent, stating that the monument is a prime example of what local artists can achieve when given the space and support to tell their own indigenous stories.
With the addition of this colossal statue, the John Randle Centre is set to become an even more significant destination for history enthusiasts and tourists alike. The Governor emphasized that the facility is built to serve as a home for traditions, ensuring that the legacy of the Yoruba people remains intact for generations to come.

Closing the event with his signature slogan, "My Lagos, your Lagos, our Lagos," the Governor invited all citizens to take pride in the new landmark. The monument is expected to draw global attention to the Onikan cultural district, further boosting the state's tourism and educational sectors.
