Governor Sanwo-Olu Inspects Damaged GNI Site

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu conducted a high-level inspection of the GNI Building at Marina on Friday following a devastating fire incident. Accompanied by top emergency management and urban development officials, the Governor assessed the extent of the structural damage to the iconic building.

Among the delegation were the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, and the Acting General Manager of LASBCA, Bldr. Florence Gbaye. The visit aimed to provide a firsthand look at the impact of the blaze on one of the city's busiest commercial hubs.
The inspection team examined the building from multiple vantage points, including an aerial view that revealed extensive damage to the structure. Governor Sanwo-Olu engaged with safety experts on-site to discuss the immediate containment measures and the long-term safety of the Marina axis.
Officials from the Office of Urban Development and the Central Business District (CBD) were also present to provide technical insights. The Governor emphasized the importance of rigorous building control and emergency response readiness to prevent future occurrences in high-density areas.

The visit concluded with a commitment to ensuring public safety and a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. The state government remains focused on supporting the affected stakeholders and maintaining the integrity of Lagos’s architectural landscape.
