The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has issued a strong call to women across Nigeria to boldly embrace responsibility and confidently step into leadership roles that shape policy, institutions, and national development. The Governor delivered this charge through his representative, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. 'Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, at the 2025 Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) Annual Leadership and Mentoring Conference.

Speaking at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Governor Sanwo-Olu asserted that the future belongs to women who are prepared to take responsibility, lead with courage, and significantly influence societal decisions. He noted that the conference theme, “Claiming Our Future: Women in Leadership and Policy Transformation,” provided a fitting and relevant backdrop for his message. He emphasized that leadership is not merely defined by titles but by influence, accountability, and the readiness to make a profound and lasting difference.
The Governor urged attendees: “Let us not shy away from leadership roles. Step forward, voice your opinions, and take responsibility for shaping the policies that determine the progress of our communities and our nation.” He commended WISCAR for its sustained commitment to nurturing women who lead with purpose and highlighted the success of the newly launched Women in Law Mentoring Programme (WILMP), supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as a "transformational leadership pipeline" for mentees.
Reaffirming Lagos State’s strong commitment to women’s leadership and inclusive governance, the Governor pointed out the administration’s practical steps, including achieving 50 per cent female representation in the composition of the state's body of Permanent Secretaries. He stressed that this move strengthens governance systems, as societies flourish and institutions become stronger when women are given the opportunity to lead and contribute meaningfully to economic growth.

Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded by congratulating Mrs. Amina Oyagbola, the WISCAR Chairperson and founder, and her team for hosting another impactful conference and their unwavering dedication to developing leaders who drive change. The conference highlighted its purpose by recognizing the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola, with WISCAR's award for her substantial contributions to education and women’s advancement.
