Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu continued a cherished state tradition on Wednesday by celebrating Christmas with patients and frontline health workers at Gbagada General Hospital. Represented by Dr. Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, the Governor distributed gifts and recognized the exceptional service of the facility’s staff.

The Governor’s delegation toured various sections of the hospital, including the Emergency, Paediatric, and Maternity wards. The visit was designed to ensure that those hospitalized during the Yuletide felt the joy of the season, while simultaneously boosting the morale of the healthcare workers who remained on duty.

Dr. Lajide emphasized that the state government places a premium on the health of every Lagosian, stressing that no citizen should feel forgotten during the holidays. She praised the management of Gbagada General Hospital for their compassion and urged the public to adopt early health-seeking behaviors, reminding them that "health is wealth."

The celebration was bolstered by the Rotary Club of Gbagada, whose members joined the delegation to distribute gifts, highlighting the power of public-private partnerships. The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Olusegun Babafemi, expressed his gratitude, noting that the gesture perfectly aligns with the spirit of sacrifice and service.

The event reached its peak with an awards ceremony honoring the "Outstanding Staff of the Year 2025" and recognizing the best-performing wards. This recognition underscored the administration’s commitment to rewarding excellence and teamwork within the Lagos State health sector.
