Standing at Arewa House, the historic home of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu delivered a reflective speech that echoed the spirit of Nigeria’s founding fathers. The Governor noted that being in the very place where one of Nigeria’s greatest leaders once lived reminded him of the vision and courage that shaped the country’s early years.

As Nigeria marks 65 years of independence, Governor Sanwo-Olu reflected on the nation’s remarkable journey and the ongoing pursuit of progress under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized that this vision is steering the country toward a stronger, fairer, and more sustainable future for all citizens.
Drawing inspiration from Sir Ahmadu Bello’s legacy, the Governor highlighted values such as service, discipline, and human development principles that guided the Sardauna’s leadership. He noted that President Tinubu’s reform-driven leadership embodies these same ideals, focusing on policies that may be challenging in the short term but essential for long-term stability and prosperity.
Governor Sanwo-Olu pointed to key national reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, tax and fiscal restructuring, and the advocacy for state policing as crucial steps in rebuilding Nigeria’s foundation. These initiatives, he said, are designed to make the country more resilient, accountable, and inclusive, reflecting a commitment to true national renewal.

The Governor stated that leadership is ultimately about legacy. He urged Nigerians to reflect on whether their actions today mirror the dedication of the nation’s early leaders to unity, justice, and progress. He reaffirmed that Nigeria’s diversity remains its greatest strength, and through collective effort across all regions and cultures, the nation will continue to move toward the prosperous and inclusive future it deserves.
