The Lagos State Governor joined his fellow South West governors in Ibadan for a crucial meeting of the South West Governors’ Forum, where leaders deliberated on pressing issues affecting the region. The discussions centred on strengthening security, boosting agricultural productivity, and accelerating economic development to ensure long-term regional stability.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to establish a South West Security Fund under the DAWN Commission. This fund will provide a coordinated financial structure to support shared security initiatives. In addition, the governors approved the creation of a digital intelligence-sharing platform designed to improve communication and strengthen operational synergy among the states.

The Forum also examined the growing security concerns within forest areas, stressing the need for improved surveillance and monitoring. To address these gaps, the governors jointly called for Federal Government support in deploying Forest Guards, while the states committed to providing trained personnel to ensure effective protection of forest reserves and rural communities.

Another important point of discussion was the rise in unregulated interstate migration and the associated security implications. The governors agreed to collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enhance identification processes and improve border monitoring. The issue of illegal mining was also highlighted, with consensus on the need for stricter licensing procedures and stronger enforcement to curb associated risks.

Reaffirming their collective vision, the Forum reiterated its unwavering support for the establishment of State Police an overdue reform they believe will significantly improve local security responses. As Chairman of the Forum, the Lagos State Governor emphasized that the strength of the South West lies in its unity, and he remains committed to working closely with his colleagues to build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous region for all.
